There are three types of licensing agreements the campus community can use when purchasing licenses for University-owned Apple computers – the Apple Volume License (VL) Program, the Volume Licensing (VL) “Get Current Program,” and the Apple Maintenance “Stay Current” Program (AMP). For personal purchases, UC Davis students, staff, and faculty are eligible for the Apple Academic Discount.

Apple Volume License (VL) Program
The Apple VL Program allows staff, faculty, and departments to purchase perpetual Mac OS X licenses for University-owned computers at a volume discount. It is important to note that maintenance may only be purchased for licenses of the current version of Mac OS X.

Single Orders via the UC Davis Bookstore:
Licenses may be purchased throughout the year through the UC Davis Bookstore at the following price per license including media (10-license minimum):
10 – 99 licenses:                      $59
100-999 licenses:                     $49
1000+ licenses:                        $39

Apple Volume License (VL) “Get Current” Program
The “Get Current” is only offered at special times during the year, when announced by Apple, and allows staff, faculty, and departments to purchase perpetual Mac OS X licenses for University-owned computers at a volume discount. Any older versions of Mac OS X may be upgraded to the current version through the VL “Get Current” Program. It is important to note that maintenance may only be purchased for licenses of the current version of Mac OS X.

Large Bulk Orders via the UC Davis Bookstore:
The UC Davis Bookstore makes large bulk orders at special times during the year. At these times, licenses may be purchased for $39 per license, and media may be purchased for $15. Maintenance is not included.

Apple Maintenance Program (AMP)
The AMP allows staff, faculty, and departments to purchase 3 years (36 months) of maintenance for University-owned computers. Maintenance entitles you to receive ALL Mac OS X upgrades during the 3-year period, and includes a perpetual license for the then-current OS X version at the end of 3 years. During the 3-year agreement period, AMP agreements may be transferred from one computer to another within a department. It is important to note that AMP may only be purchased for computers licensed for the most current Mac OS X version; if your computer is licensed for an older version of Mac OS X, you will need to purchase the current version first through the Apple VL Program.
