Greetings,

In response to Apple's release of the iPhone 3G, this past Friday, July 11, Information and Educational Technology (IET) is coordinating another campus-wide compatibility testing effort, similar to previous testing efforts. I will send an announcement at the beginning of August to officially kick off this project, but wanted to let the campus know about our upcoming project.

Planning:

Our goal is to test the compatibility of various applications and services widely used on campus. We have developed a test plan for the testing of the iPhone to be used as a general guideline for testing the compatibility. We expect to complete this project by the end of August, and provide useful information to the campus by the beginning of September. Results will be posted to the Macintosh Web site http://iet.ucdavis.edu/macintosh/index.cfm, which will include a compatibility matrix, product information, links, and other useful information. The compatibility matrix will reside within Confluence so that testing volunteers may add and update information regarding their respective application(s).

Compatibility Testing:

We would like to request volunteers from our campus technical community who have either the first-generation or 3G iPhone and would like to assist in the testing of various applications and services here on campus. Even if you do not have an iPhone you can still volunteer. All volunteers can help by:

* Submitting suggestions for applications and services to be tested (please see the list of applications that are already being considered for testing below).

* Volunteering to test or to assist with testing of an application or service (please indicate which phone you have, and if you have the first-generation phone, have you updated with Software 2.0)

If you would like to volunteer to test an application or share your own results and information, please contact the project team at ucdiphone@ucdavis.edu. We will provide you with a set of general test plans and/or grant you access to post your results and information online.
