Mac Leopard Compatibility Testing Update
(11/08/07)News & Announcements
Greetings,
On October 31, we announced our plans to test Apple's latest operating system, Leopard, against a number of widely-used applications on campus, like the testing conducted last winter for Microsoft's operating system, Vista. In this message, we would like to provide you with a brief update on the status of this project this week.
LEOPARD TESTING VOLUNTEERS
In an effort to complete all testing and provide information to the campus by November 30, we have identified, contacted, and confirmed volunteers from throughout the campus to test the compatibility of nearly 80 applications (a complete list of applications and volunteers is below). Many thanks to all of you who have volunteered to support this effort! If you are interested in testing an application, it's not too late! Please send us an email at ucdleopard@ucdavis.edu if you would like participate.
COMPATIBILITY TESTING
Rather than conducting comprehensive, industry standard testing on all applications in use on campus, our intent is to provide the community with information about the extent to which major applications in use at UC Davis are compatible with Leopard. To this end, we developed general test plans, which have been distributed to the volunteer testing group. The test plans are intended to be used as a basic framework for testing, and we have asked volunteers to expand on the testing criteria, as necessary, to provide the most useful information to the campus.
In order to facilitate the testing, the IT Express Computing Services Help Desk has loaned several Mac Leopard systems to volunteers in need of systems for testing. Additionally, Quico Gonzalez (IET-Academic Technology Services) has kindly loaned several of his Leopard licenses to the group. The application testing is currently underway, and results will be posted online on a campus Macintosh Web site by the end of this month.
LEOPARD PRESENTATIONS - NOVEMBER 26
In coordination with members of the UC Davis Mac SIG group, Paul Waterstraat and Shawn DeArmond, and Apple rep, Jarrod Wyrick, two Leopard presentations have been scheduled on November 26 and are open to the campus technical community. A two-hour presentation in the morning will cover the Leopard server, including a live demo, and a one-hour presentation in the afternoon will cover the Leopard client, including information on new features and differences between Leopard and the previous OS, Tiger. For the full agenda, please visit https://jukebox.ucdavis.edu/slc/Information/Apple/20071126_UC_Davis_Leopard_Presentations.pdf.
The presentations are scheduled as follows:
Leopard Server Presentation
2375 Academic Surge
10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Leopard Client Presentation
2375 Academic Surge
1 p.m. - 2 p.m.
If you plan to attend, please send your RSVP to ietrsvp@ucdavis.edu so that we can gauge the level of attendance.
If you have any questions or you would like to volunteer to test an application, please contact the project team at ucdleopard@ucdavis.edu.
Regards,
Sarah Robertson
