Leopard Planning Update - New Campus Macintosh Web site

(11/30/07)

Greetings,

In this week's update on the UC Davis Mac OS X Leopard Planning, I would like to focus on the release of the campus Macintosh Web site, preliminary results of the compatibility testing, and plans to update the campus computer hardware and Mac Leopard recommendations.

CAMPUS MACINTOSH WEB SITE

I am pleased to announce that the campus Macintosh Web site is now live and can be viewed at http://macintosh.ucdavis.edu. We encourage you to visit the site and to share it with the students, staff, and faculty in your departments - it has information for everyone:

* Campus Apple licensing agreements

* Details specific to how departments, staff, faculty, and students can obtain copies of Leopard for University and personal computers

* Hardware requirements for compatibility with Leopard

* The new security features in Leopard

* Compatibility testing methodology

* Compatibility testing results

* News and announcements

* Useful resource links

COMPATIBILITY TESTING

Thanks to the hard work of a number of volunteers from various departments on campus, test results have been posted online for a variety of applications with regard to compatibility with Mac OS X Leopard and Safari 3. To view the test results, visit http://iet.ucdavis.edu/macintosh/leopard/matrix.cfm. As new compatibility issues are discovered and others are resolved, the testing group volunteers will be able to update the results for their applications online, as necessary. To get your own testing results published on the Web site, please contact us at ucdleopard@ucdavis.edu.

PLANS TO UPDATE CAMPUS RECOMMENDATIONS

To read IET's initial recommendation to the campus on upgrading to or purchasing Mac OS X Leopard, please visit http://macintosh.ucdavis.edu. Next week, the Mac Leopard Recommendation Planning Workgroup, comprised of representatives from throughout the UC Davis technical community, will meet to update the guidelines for the campus with regard to adopting and supporting Leopard. The purpose of this Workgroup is to ensure that campus departments, units and IET are working together to coordinate a unified roll-out strategy, addressing issues such as application compatibility and hardware requirements.
Once updated, we will communicate the revised recommendations with you.

THANK YOU

Finally, I'd like to take a moment to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the many volunteers from throughout campus whose varied contributions made this Leopard Planning effort possible! To see who contributed, please visit http://iet.ucdavis.edu/macintosh/thanks.cfm.

If you have any questions or comments, please email ucdleopard@ucdavis.edu. We look forward to your feedback.

Regards,
Sarah
