UC Davis Office 2008 Compatibility Testing Announcement
Greetings,
In response to Microsoft's release of Office 2008 for Mac in February to volume licensing customers, Information and Educational Technology (IET) is coordinating yet another campus-wide compatibility testing effort, similar to previous testing efforts for Microsoft Vista and Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard). I planned to send out an announcement later this week to officially kick off this project, but in light of the related email thread, "Office 2008 observations," on tsp-share today, I thought I would take the opportunity to respond and make my announcement (you must have read my mind - excellent timing)!
PLANNING
Our goal is to complete testing of various widely used applications and services on campus and provide compatibility results and related information to you by the end of this month. In order to tackle this quickly and effectively, we plan to integrate the Office 2008 compatibility results and information with the results of the Leopard testing, posted last November on the campus Macintosh Web site at http://iet.ucdavis.edu/macintosh/leopard/matrix.cfm.
COMPATIBILITY TESTING
In order to draw upon the wealth of expertise that exists within our campus technical community, we would like to request your assistance with project.
You can help by:
- Volunteering to test or to assist with testing of an application or service
- Sharing the results of your own testing and/or other useful information
If you would like to volunteer to test an application or you would like to share your own results and information, please contact the project team at ucdoffice2008@ucdavis.edu. We will provide you with a set of general test plans and/or grant you access to post your results and information online. I also plan to contact those individuals who kindly volunteered their time and effort to test various applications against Leopard to request their assistance in testing Office 2008 against those same applications.
If you have any questions, please contact the project team at ucdleopard@ucdavis.edu.
Regards,
Sarah Robertson
