The Bookstore sells box sets of Vista Home, Business, and Ultimate; however, they are not available through the Select program. Staff and faculty can purchase one copy of Vista Business Edition through the Select program for a discounted price from eAcademy.
Activation
Vista purchases under the Select program for personal use come with a unique key code for activation.
Work At Home (WAH) Rights – MCCA Only
Staff and faculty in departments licensed via the MCCA have Microsoft Work-At-Home (WAH) rights, through which they may install Vista for work purposes only on personal computers. Licensed staff and faculty members are entitled to one WAH license per product.
Please note that physical media may not be purchased to enable WAH rights for Vista because the agreement specifies that all software must be delivered electronically for tax purposes.
Staff and faculty who wish to take advantage of WAH rights should contact their departments. To utilize WAH rights, departments have three options to install the software:
- Departments may install the software directly onto staff and faculty personal computers. To install the software, departmental technical support staff will need to request the campus Multiple Activation Key (MAK) from the Software License Coordination (SLC) unit. This key may not be distributed to staff and faculty to install the software themselves; the software (which can be downloaded from http://download.ucdavis.edu) must be installed directly by the department.
- Departments may create a Windows image file and distribute duplicated media to staff and faculty. The MAK must NOT be accessible in clear text format. For instructions on creating a Windows image file, please visit http://blogs.technet.com/migreene/archive/2007/05/21/1005735.aspx and http://blogs.technet.com/migreene/archive/2007/02/06/how-to-provide-a-vista-image-to-departments-without-storing-your-mak-in-clear-text.aspx
- Desktop Enterprise Solutions, a unit within IET that provides computer and network consulting services, can also provide this service to departments on a fee basis.
