New Microsoft 365 Feature Supports Collaboration Across UC Davis & UC Davis Health
The following article was published on behalf of UC Davis Health.
UC Davis Health faculty and staff are getting or now have a new, separate M365 environment, specifically designed to meet privacy, safety, and compliance requirements of health data. A new feature is coming soon to Microsoft 365 (M365) to support collaboration across UC Davis and UC Davis Health.
While most at UC Davis are not directly impacted by this change, the way you interact and collaborate with health employees may look a bit different.
Boosting collaboration with MTO People Search
UC Davis is enabling a special collaboration feature in Microsoft 365 called multi-tenant organization (MTO) People Search. The feature allows you find and connect with people across different Microsoft environments, like we now have at UC Davis and UC Davis Health.
IT teams across campuses continue to fine tune the new split Microsoft environments. Keep the following items in mind when searching for or collaborating with a health colleague in Microsoft apps like Outlook or Teams.
New Microsoft 365 Environments for UC Davis & UC Davis Health: What to Know
UC Davis Health employees
- All UC Davis Health employees are getting or now have new @health.ucdavis.edu email addresses.
- Messages sent to an old @ucdavis.edu email address of someone who has moved to the new environment will forward to their new @health.ucdavis.edu address.
- UC Davis Health employees will have a health designation added to their names. They will appear as First name Last name (UCD Health) in some applications.
- Some health employees may also have two digital identities in Microsoft 365. If this happens, choose the contact that shows First name Last name (UCD Health).
Dual appointment employees
Email forwarding is not available to and from @ucdavis.edu to @health.ucdavis.edu.
You will have two email accounts, two OneDrive spaces, and two identities for Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft 365 applications.
- Data will not be migrated from one Microsoft identity to the other. Email will not be forwarded from @ucdavis.edu email accounts to @health.ucdavis.edu email accounts.
- You will use your @ucdavis.edu credentials to access non-Microsoft UC Davis services. It is critical that you not update your email address to @health.ucdavis.edu in Zoom, online directory, or other applications at this time.
