  • Human Resource Information Systems to be Selected
The Campus is embarking on a review of HRIS tools. So far, three vendors have presented demos to a group of HR and technical staff for comment.

Infrastructure Highlights

  • Communications

  • Advanced Technology Project on Video Services and Distribution
A team was formed to develop an inventory of the current state of the UC Davis video distribution infrastructure and services. The team will also assess the future need for video services and the corresponding infrastructure requirements in accordance with current and future technology trends in video services.

  • IET Guidelines for Managers Receiving Visits from Union Representatives
Human Resources is developing guidelines for IET management for responding effectively and addressing appropriately the unexpected visits from union representatives.

  • IET Publications, Web Sites Win Several National Awards
Several IET publications and Web sites recently won awards at SIGUCCS, a national competition among universities. UC Davis pulled in 5 first and second place plaques, the most any campus has won in a single year in the history of the competition.

Academic Computing Highlights

  • New Program Trains Student Partners, Pairs them with Faculty Participants
A new Educational Technology Partners program was launched this Fall that pairs for one quarter a faculty member with a specially trained student. Each pair will work on a specific technology project identified at the beginning of the partnership.
--> More on Educational Technology Partners program

  • Educational Technology Grants Program
To encourage the use of educational technology in 2001/2002, the Teaching Resources Center (TRC) and IET-Mediaworks will award up to a total of $200,000 in educational technology grants for course enhancement projects.

  • Online Interactive Labs Developed for Heavily Enrolled Course
IET-Mediaworks has created prototypes for online interactive pre-lab and post-lab sessions for Chemistry 2C, a heavy enrollment course. The pre-lab session will free up time in the labs by teaching students on their own home computers what they need to know about lab procedures and safety issues in advance of the lecture.

  • Printing Drops by 51 Percent in campus computer labs
Last summer, IET-Computer Lab Management began charging students who print more than 200 sheets per quarter in the campus computer rooms. Students are charged 5 cents for every sheet used above the first 200 (which are free)
