Tech working on a media cabinetThere are three ways to connect your laptop to the media cabinet: video, audio, network. You only have to follow the instructions marked with (AUDIO) and (NETWORK) if you need to connect audio and network respectively.

NETWORK ONLY - Each media cabinet is equipped with an Ethernet connection, but you will need to furnish your own Ethernet cable. You will also need to configure your computer for DHCP. You should configure your computer for DHCP and register your hardware Ethernet address by following the instructions at http://netaccess.ucdavis.edu/instruct.html.

Or, you may get a black screen and get no image until you plug in your laptop. In either case, the light next to the projector should flash red for some time (warming up) and then turn green, letting you know that the projector is working.
