Illustrations
We help with the communication of information for instruction, teaching, research, and public relations. Clients can seek the help of our artists in conveying numerical and procedural data into new forms of illustration that illuminate ideas in a more simplistic fashion.
Clients can choose between our services which include both illustrations and graphic designs. The illustrations that we provide can be used in slide shows, PowerPoint presentations, poster sessions, and publications. If clients seek more than just an illustration, they may wish to use our graphic design service. Our graphic art group can create an entire presentation with the data, illustrations, and/or ideas that our clients want to convey. For visual examples of our presentations and animations, please visit the Academic Technology Services Gallery.
Clients seeking professional help with developing and organizing a visual display, should contact our designers. Our staff can either work on an assignment independently, or clients can bring a partially completed project in for us to work from. Using both digital and traditional tools, skilled Academic Technology Services artists and designers have completed numerous design projects in:
-
Brochures and Pamphlets
We can design brochures and pamphlets from a client's slides, photographs, and/or digital files.
-
Medical Illustrations
Our artists work in conjunction with doctors, interns, and residents at the UC Davis Medical Center to provide them with illustrations of medical procedures which help explain their techniques. We also illustrate organs, bones, and other parts of the anatomy that can be used in medical journals, academic texts, and publications for the general public.
-
Scientific Illustrations
We can create a broad range of scientific artwork for the purpose of instruction, research, and distribution of information. Scientists can bring in a wide variety of materials for our artists to work from. Artists can also go to laboratories and work on-location to take photos and draw sketches.
-
Animated Illustrations
Animation involves working with graphics, illustrations, photos, and words to give the illusion of movement over time. The animated object is created with software such as After Effects, Flash, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Elastic Reality, and can be viewed on a television or computer screen. Clients can use animation to improve instruction, in that it helps them to better communicate difficult concepts.

Web Design
For clients who wish to build a web site for their organization, our designers have provided artistic direction. Clients can be advised about the layout, design, and overall look of their web pages as well as independently designing a layout. The results of these collaborations can be found at the Arbor Client Showcase.
-
Logos
Currently and in the past, clients have come to our Graphic Art group requesting a logo for their organization or department. These logos are designed with a variety of artistic mediums ranging from pen and ink, pencil, acrylic, oil, pastels, airbrush, and digital software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
-
Poster Sessions
A poster session is a collage of graphs, tables, photographs, illustrations, and text that visually present a subject, such as a research project, on a large piece of poster paper. Clients can meet with one of our artists with an idea of the layout already in mind or our artists can design the poster session independently and prepare it for the clients' approval.
-
Exhibits
We have made displays that exhibit an individual or group's accolades, awards, and accomplishments. The content may include a biography, a description of the award, and any other information necessary to properly publicize a tribute. Clients can choose the layout or we can arrange the artistic design of the exhibit.
-
Cartoons
Cartoons are one way for instructors to creatively reach their students, however, this artistic medium is not limited to instruction. Cartoons are visually stimulating ways to communicate information to an audience. Our artists combine traditional cartooning tools and formats with progressive technology, such as advanced digital art programs.

These illustrations can be used for PowerPoint presentations or slide shows which instructors can then present in the classroom, at a conference, or at a convention.

PowerPoint Presentations
Our artists have provided the graphics that enliven a PowerPoint presentation. To illustrate our clients' ideas, we can draw illustrations with pen and ink, pencil, acrylic, oil, pastels, watercolors, or airbrush that can then be inserted into a PowerPoint presentation.
