*UPDATE* The SmartSite change planned for July 14 has been postponed until a later date. We will provide an update when the new date has been set. Access to SmartSite will continue as usual until that time.
The new home for SmartSite legacy course sites will be available to instructors starting July 14 at smartsite-legacycourses.ucdavis.edu.
Instructors can access the location via the campus network, or—when they’re away from campus—by using a VPN connection (“virtual private network”). Instructors with a departmental VPN can continue to use their existing service, while others can use the VPN service provided by the UC Davis Library. These instructions have details. Using a VPN for off-campus access will help secure any private information contained in the archives.
The instructional use of SmartSite ended in June 2017, and the service will be divided in two on July 14 as the former learning management system heads toward full retirement. One part will continue temporarily at smartsite.ucdavis.edu, for project sites only. The other part is the new legacy resource. Faculty can continue to access their old course sites at that location for at least the next year.
If you have materials in SmartSite that you want to keep, then you need to save copies and/or move the materials to a replacement service. For courses, this will be UC Davis Canvas. Project site owners can start exploring their options by visiting the projects transition site.
Students will not have access to the legacy course sites, so any students who want to save copies of their prior coursework contained in SmartSite should do so before July 14.
