Computer lab opens in 182 Shields

Room 182 in Shields Library reopened Wednesday as an open-access computer lab, just in time for the start of fall classes on Thursday.

182 Shields was formerly a walk-in office for IT Express, the campus computing services help desk. The space was converted this summer to help meet the growing demand for open-access computers.

The room has 34 PCs and four Macs, split between 20 quick-access standup stations, 17 with chairs, and one height-adjustable station.

"We had our first client at 9:13 a.m.," said Tim Leamy, computer lab manager for the Academic Technology Services area of Information and Educational Technology, on Wednesday. "I don't think it will take long for the students to discover the new computer lab."
