SmartSite schedules downtime for maintenance, upgrades

A series of four planned maintenance and upgrade events for SmartSite will occur from April 10 to April 17. Almost all of the work will occur overnight, and the daytime event will be very short.

The tasks, essential to the ongoing maintenance and improvement of SmartSite and related systems, have been scheduled to create the least possible inconvenience to the campus.

"We appreciate the campus's understanding and patience as we perform these critical tasks while making every effort to minimize the downtime to this important campus resource," said Liz Gibson, director of Academic Technology Services for Information and Educational Technology.

Access to SmartSite will resume as usual after each downtime ends.

SmartSite will be unavailable:

  • Sunday, April 10, 3-5 a.m. -- rSmart, the vendor that hosts SmartSite, will replace an existing network port switch with a higher capacity model. SmartSite sessions pass through this hardware. Part two of this installation will occur on April 17 (see below).
  • Thursday, April 14, for 5 to 15 minutes starting at 6 p.m. -- the campus will upgrade its Central Authentication System (CAS), which SmartSite uses. Installing this upgrade will make SmartSite unavailable for 5 to 15 minutes at 6 p.m. or shortly thereafter.
  • Friday/Saturday, April 15-16, 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. -- this is the usual monthly maintenance window for SmartSite. The SmartSite team will perform system maintenance, plus update or upgrade several components, during this window.
  • Sunday, April 17, 1-5 a.m. -- part two of the rSmart switch installation. The vendor will install higher end redundant switches.
