(CNET) Last month, Chris van Rossman's was relaxing when his television decided to send out an international distress call. The malfunctioning appliance began emitting energy at 121.5 megahertz, a frequency reserved for distress signals. The signal bounced off two satellites and soon the local sheriff's deputies and Civil Air Patrol were at his doorstep.
