Act now to protect against potential cyberattacks

In response to the risk of Russian cyberattacks increasing due to the war in Ukraine, the White House has published a list of recommendations for organizations in the U.S. to prepare for security threats. The full White House statement is available at https://www.cisa.gov/shields-up

NOTICE FROM THE CYBERSECURITY AND INFRASTRUCTURE SECURITY AGENCY (CISA):

The Biden-Harris Administration has warned repeatedly about the potential for Russia to engage in malicious cyber activity against the United States in response to the unprecedented economic sanctions we have imposed. There is now evolving intelligence that Russia may be exploring options for potential cyberattacks.

THEY URGE ORGANIZATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Implement multi-factor authentication.
  2. Deploy modern security tools.
  3. Make sure your systems are patched and protected.
  4. Back up your data.
  5. Test your emergency plans.
  6. Encrypt your data.
  7. Educate employees about common tactics that attackers use and encourage them to report unusual crashes or systems operating very slowly.
  8. Engage proactively with your organization’s Information Security Office.

The UC Davis Information Security Office encourages you to report suspicious activity to cybersecurity@ucdavis.edu.
