UC Davis has lined up two highly accomplished California technologists as keynote speakers for this year’s UC Computing Services Conference:

• Diane Bryant, chief operating officer of Google Cloud, and a 1985 graduate of UC Davis in electrical engineering
• Andrew Isaacs, a UC Berkeley professor with years of experience in Silicon Valley tech and business innovation

Their talks in Jackson Hall will be free and public.

You don’t need to register for the University of California Computing Services Conference (UCCSC) to hear the speeches by Bryant and Isaacs—although if you do register you’ll also have access to two days of presentations in the areas of health technology, leadership/professional development, research, security/privacy, technology and security policy, web and applications, and women in technology.

The UC Office of the President believes so strongly in the value of the conference that it will cover the registration cost for the first 100 UC employees who are attending for the first time, or who work in library IT or research IT.

Registration opens soon

For those who are paying, registration will cost $175. Registration opens May 18 for presenters, and May 25 for everyone else. The conference runs from Aug. 13 through Aug. 15.

Also in the works:

• A welcome dinner and reception in the Good Life Garden on Monday, Aug. 13
• A happy hour on Tuesday, Aug. 14, featuring a string quartet and vendor drawings
• Campus tours, including one by double-decker bus

The conference, hosted by a different campus each year, is open to any University of California faculty and staff who work in IT or are interested in information technology. Presentations are generally designed for IT professionals, but some sessions cover topics that also apply outside IT, such as project management, service delivery and procurement.
