Campus finishes migrating more than 10,000 email lists

It's done. Except for a few remaining special cases, UC Davis has successfully moved more than 10,000 campus email lists and archives to Sympa.

Information and Educational Technology finished the mass migration on Tuesday, Aug. 17, a day ahead of schedule. The department began moving lists in July, migrating 800 to 1,500 lists per week.

Nearly all of the migrations were routine, and list owners received confirmation messages soon after their lists and archives were moved. Anyone with questions about the migration or the email list service should contact the IT Express Computing Services Help Desk at (530) 754-HELP (4357).

Sympa replaces Listproc, a software that had grown outdated and no longer met campus security standards. IET began a project last year to replace it. Since June 22, all new lists have been created with Sympa.

The Sympa project group still needs to process a few lists that require special handling. IET will continue to provide access to the Listproc-based service for a few more months, then retire it permanently on Dec. 14, 2010.

Access the campus email list service at lists.ucdavis.edu.

IET has scheduled two Sympa training sessions, from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 25, and from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20; each will meet in 1065 Kemper Hall. The training is free, but please RSVP to ietrsvp@ucdavis.edu.
