Campus wireless users will need to accept new certificate June 23

If this drill sounds familiar, it's likely because you've done it before:

UC Davis faculty, students and staff who use the campus wireless network might be prompted to accept a new electronic security certificate the first time they use their smartphone or other mobile device on the network after 7 a.m. Tuesday, June 23.

The certificate tells your smartphone, laptop or tablet that it is connecting to eduroam or moobilenetx. "Cert upgrades" usually occur when the certificate expires. This time, the campus is installing a new certificate that includes an advance in encryption technology and will boost the security of your connection.

Your device might accept the new certificate automatically, or you might need to accept the certificate after you receive the prompt. The experience varies, depending on your device, model, and operating system.

IT Express posted a Knowledge Base article with more information about the new certificate. If you experience problems, or have questions about the certificate or process, please contact the IT Express Service Desk at 530-754-HELP (4357) or letschat.ucdavis.edu.

Other recent certificate upgrades at UC Davis occurred in September 2014 and October 2012.
