Compressed File Vulnerability for Windows XP & Windows Server 2003

On October 12, Microsoft released a critical security patch (MS04-034) to correct mishandling of compressed folders and files. This vulnerability, if not fixed, could result in the unauthorized execution of programs on the target computer. The problem affects selected versions of Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. The patch should be installed as soon as possible.

This vulnerability could be exploited by a malicious ZIP file. Users are advised to use caution prior to opening up ZIP file email attachments ? particularly unsolicited files or downloading ZIP files from untrusted sources.
