Distribution list service is coming back online

The email list distribution service (Sympa), which supports more than 12,000 UC Davis email lists, is coming back online this afternoon (10/29). Information and Educational Technology temporarily suspended the service Tuesday to clean up a problem caused by an unauthorized bulk email that sent tens of thousands of unwanted, duplicate email messages to campus accounts.

As the service is restored, you can expect to see delayed messages from lists you subscribe to arrive in your email inbox. If you receive copies of unwanted email messages, please disregard them. Do not reply to them.

For updates on the status of the distribution service and other information, including an FAQ with answers to common questions about the incident, please see listupdate.ucdavis.edu. New information will be posted there.

This interruption concerned only email lists, and not the regular campus email service (such as Office 365, DavisMail and uConnect). Messages not sent through distribution lists have not been affected.

IET greatly appreciates the patience of the UC Davis community as we work through this resolution, and will help develop clear guidelines for the use of these lists, so that a similar event does not happen again.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact the IT Express Service Desk at 530-754-HELP (4357) or ithelp@ucdavis.edu.
