Email problems continue

Problems continued to bedevil large parts of the UC Davis email system today, as system administrators continued to work vigorously on restoring the service to full working order. As of Thursday about noon, they don't have an estimate for when that will be.

--One of the campus central email servers, ms1.ucdavis.edu, continues to experience problems. Administrators began reporting difficulties with the server on Monday, and made progress on solving them, only to see problems recur as the week progressed. The other email server is not affected, which is why some people haven't noticed any disruptions with their email service.

--About 28,000 of the campus's 52,000 email accounts are affected. Many are experiencing a slow response, or no response, when trying to access their emails.

--System administrators have identified a problem with the system's quota database, and are working to fix it.

--There are no workarounds for email users who are experiencing problems. They're being advised to wait and try the system later.
