Hutchison Drive partial road closure

On March 21-25, 2011, a team of campus telecommunications and AT&T specialists will install a fiber optic cable in the existing underground infrastructure along Hutchison Drive. This work will necessitate partial closure of a large segment of Hutchison Drive.

  • Area affected: Hutchison Drive, from the School of Education (at 1st and A streets) to Parking lot 41 (by the Life Sciences Addition Building) and the main telecommunications building on Tercero Hall Circle (see map of affected area, below).
  • Anticipated impact: This upgrade is scheduled during the spring break so as to minimize impact on members of the campus community. However, there could be minor delays and traffic may be rerouted. Safety barriers and campus traffic control measures will be in place, and bicycle, vehicle, and pedestrian lanes will be partially closed in the work area. Parking Lot 41 will still be accessible; only a few spaces will be cordoned off.
  • Anticipated timeframe: The project team anticipates needing from three to five days to complete this work. The project is scheduled to start at 8 a.m. on Monday, March 21; completion is expected no later than by the end of the day on Friday, March 25.

This work is being done to improve connectivity to AT&T. Once completed, the upgrade will provide options for enhancing service to UC Davis departments located outside the main campus as well as cellular data performance on campus.

The map shows the area that will be affected by this work. If you have questions, please contact Steve Edington at (530) 754-7256 or sbedington@ucdavis.edu.
