IET adds password reset locations, will revamp 182 Shields

Starting Aug. 18, the password reset service now available only in 182 Shields Library will be offered during more of the day at several open-access computer labs spread across campus.

This expansion will let Information and Educational Technology permanently close 182 Shields as a walk-in location for the IT Express computing services help desk Aug. 15, then re-open it as an open-access computer lab with 38 computers, plus printers, early in the fall quarter. (Printing in 182 Shields will be added to the list of printers available for wireless printing.)

Resetting passwords for faculty, staff and students is the most common service IET provides in 182 Shields. Offering that service at more locations frees IET to turn 182 Shields into an open-access computer lab, to meet growing demand for computers and printing. Also, walk-in traffic for IT Express was generally low, so the change saves the expense of staffing that desk without reducing overall service.

IT Express services remain available by calling (530) 754-HELP (4357) or emailing ithelp@ucdavis.edu. The reset service will be available weekdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., except on Fridays, when the service will end at 6 p.m.

Starting Aug. 18, password resets will be available in 163 Shields (but the service will move back to 182 Shields when it re-opens); MU Station; 1154 Meyer; 15 Olson; 1101 Hart; and, starting in fall quarter, 75 Hutchison. The reset service will not be available when the rooms are closed, so please check individual computer lab hours.
