Latest SmartSite training schedule adds new topics

The SmartSite workshop schedule for winter quarter offers training to faculty and staff on subjects both old and new.

The returning topics include the drop-in clinics, plus sessions on "Gradebook Setup and Grading Workflow" and "Getting Started." The additions include a workshop on a new SmartSite feature--Portfolios--and a series of weekly one-hour sessions on how to master individual tools including Resources, Wiki, Tests & Quizzes, and Forums.

Portfolio sites help individuals share collective works, resumes, CVs, stories, photos, and other materials, either openly or privately.

Groups or departments may also arrange customized training by emailing SmartSite trainers Steve Faith and Fernando Socorro at trainers@smartsite.ucdavis.edu.

Most of the Davis campus uses SmartSite to manage courses and collaborate on projects online. In mid-December the campus upgraded to version 2.6 of the underlying Sakai open-source software, and transferred system hosting and maintenance to rSmart, a leading commercial affiliate of Sakai. The upgrade included new tools and better resource materials.
