Microsoft Releases Critical Security Updates for August 2005

It is recommended that Windows users download and install three critical security updates which have been released for August 2005. The updates are for computers running Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and, in some cases, Windows 98 and ME. The updates correct vulnerabilities that could permit an unauthorized party to remotely execute programs on an unpatched computer. The critical security updates correct recent vulnerabilities identified in the Windows Internet Explorer Web browser,"Plug and Play" feature, and print service.

Critical security updates and other important updates are available for download at the Windows update Web site, http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

The Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) may be used to verify the need for these and other critical Windows operating system and application security patches. MBSA, version 2.0, is available for free at the site listed below.
