Moobilenetx upgrade Sept. 7 will require users to adjust settings
Moobilenetx, the secure campus wireless network, will switch to an upgraded encryption method on Sept. 7. The change will require existing customers to adjust their settings the first time they use the network after the work is done.
The IT Express Computing Services Help Desk has posted step-by-step instructions, which vary by operating system. The process is fairly straightforward for Apple and Windows XP. It takes a bit longer, and might require manual adjustments, for Windows 7 and Vista.
Moobilenetx will remain available during the upgrade, which will begin at 8 a.m.
Information and Educational Technology chose Sept. 7 so it could finish the upgrade before the start of the new academic year, and to coincide with the renewal of the service's security certificate.
Resnetx, the wireless network in the residence halls, already uses the improved AES encryption method. However, Resnetx customers will still have to accept the new security certificate, and IT Express has guidance for them too.
