MyUCD course tools will retire for new classes, starting this fall

As previously announced, UC Davis is retiring the MyUCDavis course management tools starting fall quarter 2010. It is no longer possible to create course sites or gradebooks using the MyUCDavis tools for terms that occur after summer session 2 in 2010.

The MyUCDavis Web portal itself is not being retired--the change is limited to course tools. Material on existing sites will remain available. The tools are being replaced by SmartSite, the system for managing coursework and collaborating online now used by most of the Davis campus. This retirement has been discussed and planned since 2007.

As of last week, 387 classes at UC Davis are using the MyUCDavis course tools for the current quarter, down significantly from previous years.

Anyone who still uses the MyUCDavis tools should start transitioning to SmartSite. The winter training schedule offers help ranging from drop-in sessions to workshops on getting started with SmartSite. For training, contact trainers@smartsite.ucdavis.edu or consult the SmartSite Message of the Day for regular postings about training opportunities, and for support help, contact the IT Express Computing Services Help Desk at (530) 754-HELP (4357).
