New Computer Lab Opens In Hutchison Hall

New Computer Lab Opens In Hutchison Hall A brand new, 30-seat open access computer lab recently opened in room 73, Hutchison Hall. Operated by Information and Educational Technology, this new lab is located on the western edge of the campus, within walking distance of the Memorial Union, the Library, and major classroom buildings. And it comes with state-of-the-art computers. The lab is indeed equipped with 31 new Optiplex GX260 computers (2.4GHz Pentium 4 processors, 512MB RAM, 20GB hard drives, CD-RW/DVD combo drives) and 15" flat panel monitors, all of which were generously donated by Dell Computer Corporation. Each workstation is equipped with Windows ME, Microsoft Office 2000 (includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and FrontPage) and network utilities (SecureCRT(SSH), Internet Explorer, Mozilla, and Absolute_FTP). This new computer room is the first in a series of three that will open in the basement of Hutchison this academic year. This new cluster of labs will follow the closure of the Surge IV and TB 114 computer open access labs and classroom. 73 Hutchison is open Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 8 pm, and Fridays, from 8 am to 5 pm. A list of the 15 computer classrooms and open access labs is available on the Web at http://clm.ucdavis.edu/. The site also provides detailed lists of software and hardware available in each lab, along with a real-time, online system tracking seat availability.
