New status page will make it easier to track IT outages

On April 8, Information and Educational Technology will release major improvements to status.ucdavis.edu, the campus website that displays the operating status of important UC Davis services including SmartSite, email and authentication.

The upgrades, in the works well before the Jan. 10-11 campus email and web interruptions, will help address the communications feedback that IET received following those events. The two main changes:

  • The new page will be hosted off-campus, meaning people can access it even when the UC Davis network or other critical IT services are down. (You might need to use a smartphone if your campus computer is offline.)
  • Faculty, students and staff can sign up to receive notices about individual services, by email or by text.

Both features would have helped faculty, students and staff find and receive information about the January outages while they happened.

For more about the new page, including links to information about signing up for notices, please see the status page entry in IET's IT Service Catalog.

On April 8 IET will also retire the technotices listserv, which distributes basic notices (maintenance, outages, etc.) about certain IT services. All 877 technotices subscribers will be automatically subscribed to receive notices distributed from the new status page instead.

The old status page will remain available via a link from the new status page until all the functions on the old site have moved to the new site.

Please direct any questions or comments about the new page to the IT Express Service Desk, 530-754-HELP (4357).
