Projector, SmartSite, podcast training offered

Information and Educational Technology is offering instructors four free training sessions in January. If you're interested, don't defer your decision; registration, when required, must be completed before the December holiday break.

The sessions are:

Learn to hook your laptop to the projector
Noon to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 3, Room 2205, Haring Hall

This session will introduce instructors to the media cabinet in every general assignment classroom, and show you how to use it to project from a laptop. It will include hands-on practice; bring a laptop. RSVP to rlralston@ucdavis.edu.

Recording and podcasting your lectures
3-5 p.m. Jan. 3, Room 2205 of Haring Hall, then moving to room 2020 of the Science Laboratory Building

This two-part session will show instructors how to record and podcast lectures. RSVP to rlralston@ucdavis.edu.

SmartSite for beginners
1-3 p.m. Jan. 4, Room 1102 Hart Hall

SmartSite is the new UC Davis course management system. This session can help instructors get a jump on winter quarter by using SmartSite to set up course assignments, an email list, tests and quizzes, a grade book, and other tools in advance--and even set components to time-release as appropriate. No RSVP required.

SmartSite jumpstart drop-in clinics
Noon-3 p.m. Jan. 8, Room 1131 Meyer Hall

9 a.m.-noon Jan. 11, Room 27 Olson Hall

The clinic offers help in setting up course sites and learning about SmartSite's many functions. Staff from IET-Academic Technology Services and the Teaching Resources Center will be on hand to help with both technical and pedagogical questions. Come at your convenience, stay as long as you wish. Open to faculty, staff, graduate students, and teaching assistants. No RSVP required.
