SmartSite to close July 19-20 for system upgrade

SmartSite will be unavailable from 8 a.m. Saturday, July 19, until noon Sunday, July 20, while campus technicians install a major upgrade to the Sakai open-source software it runs on. Users will not be able to access sites, data, tools or features within SmartSite during the shutdown.

Afterwards, users will gain a site that won't look much different than before, but will offer various improvements.

"The overall look and feel of SmartSite will not change significantly," said SmartSite Program Manager Kirk Alexander in an advisory. "However, the upgraded version will include many fixes and improvements to the system, including a number of usability enhancements such as the 'My Active Sites' tab, which better organizes each user's sites."

UC Davis faculty, students and staff use SmartSite to teach, research and work together online. The upgrade will advance SmartSite from version 2.4 of Sakai to version 2.5.

Users can always check the status of SmartSite by visiting the campus network and service status page. If you have questions or concerns about the upgrade, contact the IT Express support group at smartsite-help@ucdavis.edu or (530) 754-HELP [4357].
