Talk shop with savvy faculty at next 'More Thoughtful Teaching' event March 8

The latest More Thoughtful Teaching event is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. March 8 in the University Club. This one will feature eight booths; each will focus on a tool or task ranging from grading strategies to teaching with images, and each will be staffed by two to three UC Davis faculty members. They will essentially hold office hours to discuss what they do, and all faculty are invited.

"Campus colleagues will give you a firsthand account of related innovations in their own courses and classrooms," says a notice announcing the sessions. "They'll answer your questions and walk you through what it takes to apply similar strategies in your own classes. They'll also point you towards additional resources."

The Teaching Resources Center has started to offer More Thoughtful Teaching events to extend the inquiry into good teaching promoted during each year's Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology.

The first such event, held last November, included updates on SmartSite, the new online course-management system at UC Davis; using "clickers" (or "personal response systems") in classrooms; defining and evaluating good teaching; and updates for SITT 2007, which will be held July 16-20 on campus.

More Thoughtful Teaching events are organized and hosted by the TRC, working with Information and Educational Technology. Register or learn more about the March 8 event here. The TRC staff plans to record some of the conversations, then post the audio files on the TRC Web site.
