Telephony Database to Facilitate Strategic Planning
As of May 2005, The engagement with Western Telecommunications Consulting (WTC) is nearing completion. WTC is working with IET to develop a comprehensive database of all campus telephony infrastructure, including a survey of all equipment rooms and closets. At its conclusion, the campus will possess an inventory of over 600 buildings and 1500 telephone rooms, structured in a manner that can be used to assess costs for building remodels, and possible upgrades to the core network system for years to come. The database will make it possible to get cost-based answers to a variety of ???what if???? technology questions, including those that are strategic in nature, i.e., ???what is the impact to migrate to a converged network???? as well as tactical, i.e., ???how much will it cost to replace???????.
