Visualization Lab and Classroom Set to Close in January

The Visualization Lab and Classroom will be closing on January 31, 2003. A number of factors have led to this decision, including their low utilization, the need to use the space where the lab and classroom existed, and the re-purposing of Scientific Computing Support (SCS) staff toward more bioinformatic and genomic scientific support. The Visualization Lab and Classroom has been available to students, staff, and faculty who wish to use SGI workstations and scientific computing software for their research projects. To ease the transition, a few workstations will be made available to researchers in a nearby computer room, and Scientific Computing Support staff will continue to provide application consulting for a number of scientific applications. They will gradually add more services in support of genomics and bioinformatics. For more information on services provided by IET's Scientific Computing Support unit, see http://scs.ucdavis.edu/.
