Faculty series includes talk on tricking, er, inspiring students to participate
The Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program has announced a new weekly faculty speaker series that reflects the program's evolution this spring away from an exclusive focus on SmartSite, the new online course-management system.
The lineup of subjects through June 1 range from "Twenty Ways to Trick (Engage) Students In Proactive Course Participation," taught May 18 by Jeanine Pfeiffer of Science and Society/Plant Pathology, to "Teaching Writing with and without SmartSite," taught April 27 by Chris Thaiss, director of the University Writing Program.
See a complete list here. After each speaker's informal presentation, participants will discuss the topic, as well as other teaching strategies and tools.
Past participants in the Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program have benefited from the peer support, new teaching ideas, and camaraderie generated at the meetings, said program manager Andy Jones.
Seating is limited, so visit the Teaching Resources Center calendar page to pre-register. Faculty can also just come by to see if space is available. The program meets Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Mediaworks conference room in Surge II.
