IET summarizes recent leadership changes
This summer has seen several transitions in key leadership areas of Information and Educational Technology, IET Vice Provost Pete Siegel writes in an August update to the campus.
Here's the rundown:
Here's the rundown:
- Babette Schmitt, who assumed responsibility for strategic planning and communications earlier this year, continues to oversee research and analysis components previously handled by Doug Hartline, who left to become director of core technologies at UC Santa Cruz. Schmitt heads IET's communications unit and coordinates input from constituent groups to inform IT strategic planning and to ensure that IT services match campus needs.
- Lisa Chance assists Schmitt with some of these responsibilities--in particular, supporting critical venues such as the Deans' Technology Council, the Campus Council for Information Technology, the Technology Infrastructure Forum, and the IET Leadership Council. She also oversees executive support for the Office of the Vice Provost.
- Director Debbie Lauriano assumed full responsibility for the IET Application Development Unit after co-director Ray Reveles retired. Curtis Bray has assumed responsibility for technical direction and leadership of the IET Middleware, Communications Resources, and MyInfoVault application development teams. Hampton Sublett has joined Bray as project manager for the Middleware and CR teams, and assumed responsibility for aspects of project development and logistical support.
- Lauriano has agreed to chair a new campus IT Architecture Advisory Council. Bob Ono, IT security coordinator, and Mike Allred, associate vice chancellor for Accounting and Financial Services, have been asked to work with her to establish the leadership needed to make significant progress. "This group will have an important role even after appointment of a campus IT architect," Siegel said. (H e recently extended the search for a new IT architect after opting not to hire either of the two finalists.)
- Tom Arons, who has been IT architect, has moved to Texas but will work under contract on several critical initiatives, including gathering requirements related to identity management and evaluating role management technologies.
