Staff still using Cyrus/Geckomail need to choose a new campus email service by Sept. 1

The approximately 1,200 staff employees who still use Cyrus/Geckomail as their campus email service need to choose a replacement by Sept. 1. Any staff who haven't will be moved to Office 365 email, which most UC Davis staff already use.

The Sept. 1 deadline is necessary so UC Davis can move ahead with plans to retire Cyrus/Geckomail, an outdated service that was once the central campus email system, by the end of 2015.

If you're not sure which email system you use, or if you have questions, please contact your department IT staff or the IT Express Service Desk at 530-754-HELP (4357).

After Sept. 1, Information and Educational Technology (IET) will contact any staff still using Cyrus/Geckomail with details about their migration to Office 365.

Office 365's features include 50 GB of storage for email, calendaring, Lync (text/video/voice chat), 1 terabyte of storage in OneDrive, and Microsoft Office Web apps.

IET began the Email and Collaboration project more than two years ago to consolidate the campus from more than 90 email systems to two--Office 365 and DavisMail. Today, more than 20,000 staff and faculty (including the UC Davis Health System) use Office 365, and approximately 2,200 use DavisMail. Students use DavisMail.

Cyrus/Geckomail continues to be available to faculty, although they also will need to choose a new email service by the end of 2015.

The consolidation of email systems is improving service and reducing administrative costs for UC Davis.
