Microsoft outage disrupts some campus email accounts

UC Davis email services were disrupted this morning by a faulty networking device in a Microsoft data center. The disruption has prevented some people from accessing their uConnect Office365 accounts, which include UC Davis email, calendar services, and Office web applications.

The impact is intermittent, because many uConnect accounts are working as usual. The campus is in contact with Microsoft about the problem, which has affected locations other than UC Davis. Microsoft says the problem should be easing.

"A networking device in one of our data centers experienced a failure that impacted Exchange Online service availability," says a notice posted by Microsoft. "Our automated recovery system shifted traffic to alternate infrastructure, and restarted the impacted device to restore service health. We're re-balancing the affected mailbox databases and are monitoring the affected systems as they recover to ensure that there are no remaining issues."

During service disruptions, UC Davis posts service updates at status.ucdavis.edu. The site allows you to subscribe to status updates for individual services, and you can receive updates by various options, including text messages.
