SITT 2025

Year 30 Was a Big Success for SITT 2025 Team

Thirty years of Summer Institutes on Teaching and Technology are in the books! The 2025 SITT was held virtually over two half days on September 11 and 12. Organizers and attendees agreed it was a big success.

One attendee said, “I love the variety of topics and that there are so many different departments represented,” and another shared their favorite part of SITT was, “learning what other faculty across UC Davis are thinking about and learning about.”

More than 100 UC Davis faculty and staff members attended live talks, discussion panels, and a faculty forum, all revolving around teaching strategies and instructional technologies that help instructors reach every learner. Here’s a closer look at this year’s stats:

2025 SITT By the Numbers

  • 122 attendees
  • 54 departments / units represented
  • 7 live talks & discussion panels
  • 12 On-Demand Talks & Interviews
  • 2 sessions had more attendees than any SITT session since 2020!

AI and Accessibility: Live & On-Demand

SITT 2025 featured a rich mix of forward-looking live presentations and on-demand talks and interviews. According to Dr. Andy Jones, Academic Director, Academic Technology Services and SITT host, “from explorations of accessibility and assessment, to thoughtful considerations of AI, equity, and student engagement, [the] talks capture the innovative and practical spirit that makes SITT a meaningful event for our faculty community.”

Top topics included generative artificial intelligence (genAI) and accessibility, both timely for campus as new tools and guidelines continue to emerge. For AI, faculty presenters explored ways to use tools ethically and discussed how to design courses with it in mind. On the topic of accessibility, on-demand talks and interviews explored alt text, Canvas, and equitizing digital content.

Feedback from attendees was captured via Zoom polls during the live presentations. It also served as a vehicle for attendee engagement. Organizers captured positive attendee sentiment in real time, sharing these quotes:

“Everyone brought unique and exciting ideas today!”

“There have been gems from each presentation I attended.”
